Hosting
mChat runs on a machine Medtra Inc. administers itself, in Beauharnois, Quebec: the key directory, the relay for encrypted messages, the web client and the call server. No third party service sits on that path. Three exceptions, stated here: the SMS sign in code goes through Twilio; a conversation linked to a Medtra account is kept by Medtra, on its server in Germany; MedLiam mailbox sign in and the AI assistant (plain text conversations only, and only if you turn it on) pass through that same server.
What the service promises
To route encrypted blocks between registered people, without being able to read them. Nothing more. mChat is provided as is, with no availability guarantee: it is free, and a free service promising contractual uptime would be lying.
What you accept by using it
Not to use it to harass, threaten, or commit an offence. Encryption protects a conversation, it does not excuse what is done with it. An account reported for such use is removed from the directory.
Ownership
The code of mChat and MedProto belongs to Medtra Inc. The standards it implements (Noise, ML-KEM, MLS) are public and belong to their respective authors.
